LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction with local anesthesia is like a dream come true for those seeking body contouring with minimal risks. With this technique, we can remove deposits of fat underneath the skin that we either inherited it, or we acquired it and cannot eliminate it with exercise.  It is performed by introducing tiny micro-cannulas through the skin to where the fat is located to remove it.  The result is an improvement in your body shape.  With the technique used by Dr. Moreano, there is no stitching required, thus assuring you a faster recovery.  That extracted fat can be processed and reinjected in areas of deficiency like in the buttocks (to obtain a buttocks lift and augmentation), deep facial lines (to smooth them and make you look younger), or hands (to make them look younger).

Is general anesthesia needed to do liposuction?

No, Dr. Moreano uses the Tumenescent Technique of Liposuction.  It is done with local anesthesia and it does not have the risks of the traditional liposuction that is mainly performed with general anesthesia. Our patients recover in one to two days.  Our patients are made extremely comfortable during the procedure by addition of relaxing medications, if required.  Patients are welcome to bring their favorite music CD to listen if desired.  The technique of liposuction with local anesthesia allows us to extract mainly fat, and not blood, as happens with the other methods practiced in other offices.

Who are the best candidates for liposuction?

The best candidates are patientes in good state of health and that have realistic expectations of the procedure and the change that will take place.  No cosmetic procedure can make you look "perfect", but it can improve you enough so that you achieve satisfaction, thereby improving your self-esteem.

Will there be lots of swelling and bruising?

With the technique of local anesthesia employed by the Dr. Moreano, patients seldom bruise and swelling itself is minimal, allowing most patients to return to their daily activities in 1 or 3 days.

Risks of liposuction.

Like all surgical procedures, liposuction can have certain side effects.  Among these risks are: swelling, bruising, some irregularities in the shape, and skin areas of reduced or no sensation.  These side effects are infrequent with the tumescent local anesthesia technique.

What happens with the skin after Liposcuction?

In the great mayority of patients, any extra skin in the treated areas usually tightens enough so that you are left with an excellent result. If sufficient tightening occurs, patients can then avoid the long and permanent scar that would come from doing an abdominoplasty ("tummy tuck").  Even if a small amount of laxity should remain, this would be located in the bottom center of the abdomen, which could be removed with a smaller procedure.  This scar would look more like a C-section scar, which is much more acceptable to female patients than a "Tummy Tuck" scar.
