JACKSON HEIGHTS – A group of Long Island doctors is heading to the Dominican Republic to perform charitable work.

Dr. Edwin Moreano, who will be embarking on his 17th mission, says the medical volunteers will be performing reconstructive surgery for children that have cleft palates, missing ears, burns and deformities.

The doctors and volunteers are leaving on Feb. 15, and are donating both time and money to the cause. All of the volunteers use their own vacation time and pay for their travel expenses.

They say about 300 children will be helped by the more than 40 medical volunteers during the mission.
